Visual Narrative: Visual Effects Week 2

As I planned last week, I started to do some sketches of the digital make-up. I tried various ways to combine the Chinese Cantonese opera and the distorted faces inspired by Quasimodo. At first, I focused on applying the make-up of ‘Chou Jue’ to the face and came up with a design that contains some minimalistic patterns.
Then, I tried to create something inspired by Quasimodo and the distorted face turned out to be a playful and visualised concept. I could make part of my face pop out or enlarge my mole in my 3d model. However, I am advised to leave this for future experiments in other projects as I was also learning a brand new software at the same time.
I chose the one on the right in the picture above to develop because of the simplicity and the various space to develop. I can play around with the patterns on the face and it would be more flexible and easier for me if I need to fix or add something to it later on.

CONCLUSION:
Inspired by Cantonese Opera and the character Quasimodo, I managed to come up with several designs for my digital make-up and due to concerns for the time management and my capability as a beginner for visual effects, I decided to develop more the pattern design rather than modelling a distorted face.
