Photography
I was very excited to go take a look around in my city and record something for a specific goal. As mentioned in my reflection, I want to photograph all the places which I have memories in and arrange them in a way that is like guarding me to an unknown country.
Those are the photos I took at various visits to downtown, my neighbourhood, countryside in Shanghai.
I did not put the first one in because I am just trying out different techquies to use and it did not contribute to the concept.For the second one,I tried add everything together in a way to create a long road pointing out to the further. However, shown above,it did not work out so well and everything was blended in a draker area which doesn’t reveal enough details.
In the series ‘Metaphysics of an Urban Landscape‘, Gabriele Croppi photographed famous landmarks around the world, using strong contrasts and placing the characters in the center of the architectural drama to create the drama. The images are powerful and pantomime-like, spilling so many storyies within the minimalistic graphic composition.
To imitate his style, I make the contrast stronger but it doesn’t convey my idea.
I am happy with this result as it expresses my concept and adding the figure is really interesting process. The collage of images works and they look like they belong to the same horizon. The building on the left is slightly leaning towards the figure which is a metaphor for huge pressure when I think about leaving my home and travel to somewhere so far away. The ancient Chinese building brings an oriental twist among the modern skyscraper. This image means so much for me as it will awaken the loneliness and ,with dramatic color contrast, it takes my breath away and gives me the feeling of walking alone in the cold architecture of black and white.
